McCarthy, the Top House Republican in Congress, Backs Michelle Steel in Key Battleground Seat
Huntington Beach, CA– Michelle Steel, Vice-Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, announced today she has earned the key endorsement of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in her bid for U.S. Congress. Leader McCarthy joins the California Republican Party, the Republican Party of Orange County, and the Lincoln Club of Orange County in endorsing Steel who has coalesced both local and national support in her bid for the 48th congressional district.
“Restoring a Republican majority in Congress is a top priority of mine and that is why I am proud to endorse Michelle Steel. With values rooted in the principles of liberty and freedom, and a track record of keeping her word––Michelle is the ideal person to represent California’s 48th district in Washington. Likewise, her vision, work-ethic and ability to lead are exactly what we need to build a stronger, more diverse, and effective House Republican conference. I look forward to campaigning and working with Michelle for years to come,” said Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.
A recent poll conducted by TargetPoint Consulting and reported by RealClearPolitics last week showed Steel and Rouda tied 42%-42% with 16% undecided. The poll also showed that only 28% of the voters polled in the survey said they want to re-elect Democrat Harley Rouda, while 42% said they want to give someone else a chance.
“Leader Kevin McCarthy is committed to ensuring Californians are well represented by leaders who will stand-up and fight for them, and that’s why he’s supporting Michelle Steel,” added general consultant Sam Oh. “The people of the 48th congressional district want a representative who understands their issues and needs, and provides common-sense solutions — not someone who has consistently voted with the extreme liberal agenda of AOC and Nancy Pelosi.”
Last month, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) recognized Michelle Steel as an “On the Radar” candidate in their Young Guns recruitment program due to her impactful message, grassroots support, and campaign organization.
Steel represents the county’s 2nd supervisorial district which overlaps 66% of California’s 48th congressional district which encompasses all or portions of Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, and Westminster.
